Computer-implemented technique for data deletion constrained by replication delay in a distributed data storage system. In some aspects, the techniques prevent deletion rates that cause severe replication delays from being too high, while at the same time maximally tolerated by the replication delays measured for both local and geographical replication delays. Improving the operation of the computing system by increasing and decreasing the deletion rate over time to the deletion rate.
