To provide a method for reducing heavy metals, capable of simultaneously reducing hexavalent selenium and pentavalent arsenic included in a test liquid into tetravalent selenium and trivalent arsenic, and a method for determining the elution amount of heavy metals, capable of simply analyzing heavy metals of three kinds of hexavalent chromium, selenium and arsenic from the same test liquid.SOLUTION: The method for reducing heavy metals comprises adding thiourea as a reducer to a test liquid including hexavalent selenium and pentavalent arsenic to perform a reduction reaction under hydrochloric acid acidity and simultaneously reduce the pentavalent arsenic and the hexavalent selenium. The thioureas is added with a fluid volume of 0.2-1 g/30 mL and is reduced at a reaction temperature of 70-80°C for 10-20 minutes under hydrochloric acid acidity having a pH of 1 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
