Tunnel Modification for Split Bearers in Multi-RAT Dual Connectivity (MR-DC) and NR-NR Dual Connectivity (NR-DC)

Embodiments include methods and/or procedures, performed by a master node in a radio access network, for modifying radio resources used between a secondary node (SN) and a user equipment. Such embodiments include determining that one or more tunnels, for forwarding user-plane data to a core network, need to be modified. Such embodiments also include sending, to the SN, a modification request identifying, for each of the one of more tunnels determined as needing to be modified, an associated radio bearer that has been admitted by the SN. For each identified radio bearer, the modification request can also identify a further tunnel for forwarding user-plane data associated with the identified radio bearer to the core network. Other embodiments include complementary methods and/or procedures performed by a SN, as well as network nodes configured to perform any of the respective methods and/or procedures.
