PARAFFIN-BASED EMULSION FOR APPLICATION IN OIL-BASED DRILLING FLUIDS

The present invention deals with obtaining emulsions used as a base for fluids with application in the area of oil well drilling. For this, an emulsion composed of a 2% saline solution of NaCI, an n-Paraffin oil, an ionic surfactant and an ethyl alcohol co-surfactant was used. A co-surfactant / surfactant ratio (2: 1) is used. Montmorillonite clay was added to the emulsion as a viscosifying agent to obtain fluids. Apparent viscosity, flow curves and gel strength were evaluated.
