Methods and systems for controlling a pipe section construction process, where the method includes engaging a first tubular using an elevator, lifting the first tubular by raising the elevator, lowering the first tubular on an auxiliary table, lowering the elevator, engaging the first tubular using the auxiliary table, disengage the first tubular from the elevator after engaging the first tubular using the auxiliary table, engaging a second tubular using the elevator, lifting and lowering the second tubular in engagement with the first tubular, connect the first and the second tubes and disengage the auxiliary table from the first tube after connecting the first and second tubes together. At all times, during the tube section construction process, a sequential step control system locks an elevator control open / close control, or locks an auxiliary table control open / close control or locks both , depending on a stage of the pipe section construction process being performed.
