in several implementations, techniques are provided, as well as systems that implement these techniques, for messages I know that distinguish essential information from non-essential information. in various implementations, an encoder can be configured to determine whether the information associated with video data is essential or not. in various implementations, different types of sei messages can be defined, where one or more of these sei message types can indicate whether the information associated with a particular video is essential or nonessential. essential information is needed to present the video data, and is not needed to decode the video data.
