the invention relates to compositions and methods related to modified yeast with exogenous expression, or increased amounts, of glucose-specific atp-mediated transporters. the modified yeast produces an increased amount of ethanol compared to the progenitor cells. such yeast is particularly useful for large-scale production of ethanol from starch substrates.
