In this method, the excess metabolic heat generated by the microbial decomposition of organic matter is used to evaporate the excess water. An important element is aeration control, which provides both a sufficient supply of oxygen for the microorganisms and the removal of water vapour. The aeration control then plays a principal role in maintaining the desired temperature regime, which is critical to the quality of the output material. In addition, the aeration intensity and the temperature in the composting bags are the main factors that control the ammonia nitrogen emissions from the treated sludge. The invention involves the biological treatment of the so-called bio-drying of sewage sludge. When the dewatered sewage sludge is mixed with the lightening material, the filler spontaneously heats up to 70 ° C, while based on the developed aeration device control system there is gradual partial mineralization of the organic matter and elimination of free and bound water, up to 80% of the dry matter. The sludge and the lightening material must be mixed in a ratio where the inlet dry matter of this mixture is at least 40%.
