The target simulator consists of a series of radio transponders consisting of a millimetre wave receiver (1.1) with a receiving antenna (1.2) and a frequency down-converter (1.3), a millimetre wave transmitter (1.4) with a transmitting antenna (1.5) and a frequency up-converter ( 1.6) and signal processing circuits (1.7). The maximum radiation patterns of the receiving aerials (1.2) and the transmitting aerials (1.5) point to the antennas (2.1) of the automobile radar under test (2). At least some of the parts of the N radio transponders (1) are placed side by side on a mechanical support (3) formed by a narrow strip of rigid and deformable material oriented by long side with its cross-section in a vertical plane. The centre-to-centre distance of the antennas of individual radio transponders (1) or portions of them, where the centre of the antennas is defined as the geometric centre of the axis of the receiving aerial (1.2) and the centre line of the transmitting antenna (1.5) of that radio transponder (1) or part of it, given the requirements for target density in the outlook of the tested automotive radar (2). The signal processing circuits (1.7) are connected via a digital bus to control circuits (4) consisting of a programmable microcomputer with a program for activating and deactivating individual radio transponders (1), setting simulated distances and radial speeds of active radio transponders (1), the speed is on the line tested automobile radar (2) and given radio transponder (1).
