The present invention relates to a method for the synthesis of mordenite molecular sieves with controlled arrangement and distribution of Bronsted acid sites, as well as a process product and use of the process product. More specifically, there is provided a method for synthesizing mordenite molecular sieves with Bronsted acid sites located predominantly in a "side pocket" of 8-membered rings and connecting to a through channel of 12-membered rings in the presence or absence of an inorganic base. The method includes introducing into the synthetic gel an additional reagent and an optional fluorine-containing reagent having different structures and charge densities, and in the resulting mordenite molecular sieves, Bronsted acid centers are predominantly located in a "side pocket" of 8-membered rings and are connected to a through channel of pores consisting of 12-membered rings. The catalyst obtained by the present method has excellent adsorption and catalysis characteristics. The synthesis method proposed in the present invention is simple and has broad prospects for industrial application, in particular, as a catalyst for the carbonylation of dimethyl ether.
