A description of the system and method for monitoring a pipe for transporting a fluid medium with a given pressure value is given. The system contains at least one device that generates pressure pulses, hydraulically connected to the fluid transported by the pipe. Each device that generates pressure pulses contains at least one first reservoir configured to contain fluid exiting the pipe and maintain it at a first pressure value that is less than a given pressure of the fluid transported by the pipe, and at least one second a reservoir configured to contain fluid exiting the pipe and maintain it at a second pressure value that is greater than a predetermined pressure value of the fluid transported by the pipe. The first reservoir and the second reservoir respectively generate a negative pressure pulse caused by the passage of fluid from the pipe to the first reservoir and a positive pressure pulse caused by the passage of the fluid from the second reservoir into the pipe. Each device that generates pressure pulses contains at least one pressure sensor configured to measure the pressure values of the fluid and convert them into corresponding acoustic signals. In addition, the monitoring system contains at least one measuring station located along the pipe and containing one or more vibroacoustic sensors configured to record acoustic signals received from devices that generate pressure pulses.
