Method of exchanging electrical energy between an electrical network (4) conveying any one of a DC electrical supply quantity and of an AC electrical supply quantity, and an electrical energy storage unit (10) for hybrid or electric vehicle (1), the storage unit (10) forming part of an electrical circuit (2) furthermore comprising: - a switching system comprising a plurality of controllable switching cells, - a plurality of inductors (7), and - a connector (3) making it possible to link the electrical circuit (2) to a connector of said electrical network (4), the method comprising the steps according to which: - the connector (3) of the electric circuit (2) is linked to the connector of said network (4), and - the switching cells are controlled as a function of whether the electrical supply quantity conveyed by the electrical network (4) is DC or AC, so as to allow the exchange of electrical energy between the electrical energy storage unit (10) and the electrical network (4).
