The object of the invention is new iodine salts of general design (1),where R1 stands for -H, -CH3, -C2H5; R2 stands for -CN, -COOCH3, -SO2CH3; R3 stands for -H, -CH3, -CN; R4 stands for -H, -OCH3; R5 stands for -H, -OCH3, E- stands for anion selected from a group comprising PF6-,SbF6,BF4,CF3SO3,TsO,B(C6F5)4-,B(C6H5)4-,[Al(OC(CF3)3)4]-. The invention also covers the production and use of new iodine salts and a new intermediate compound for the production of new iodine salts, the production and use of a new intermediate compound (E)-3-(2-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enonitryl and its derivatives. Iodine salts according to the invention can be used as photoinitiators for cationic photopolymerisation.
