The invention relates to a process for isolating and purifying violacein for biomedical applications. The claimed process consists in the cultivation of Janthinobacterium lividum on a specifically formulated solid medium, the sampling of the generated biofilm, the separation of violacein in volatile organic solvents, the advanced isolation by sorption on inert inorganic substrates, the primary and then the advanced purification of violacein by chromatographic elution techniques, bringing the violacein to the hydrophilic organic phase, the optional formulation of the organic phase with violacein content using chemical compounds of pharmaceutical purity, admitted by pharmacopoeias and regulatory organizations, depending on the concerned application.
