The invention relates to a polymer resin coating composition with biocidal photocatalytic properties and to a photocatalytic method for disinfection of polymer resin coated surfaces employed for protection and disinfection of surfaces and objects with special requirements of hygiene. According to the invention, the composition consists of an epoxy-type polymer resin base, which may be polyurethane, vinyl, polyester, acrylic resin or epoxy-ester or epoxy-vinyl hybrid resin or resins for thermosetting plastics, such as polymethylmethacrylate, acrylo-butadiene-styrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyamide, polycarbonates, polytetrafluoroethylene, in which there are dispersed 3% up to 20% mass parts of pigment consisting of particles of semiconductor metallic oxides such as TiOor ZnO, doped with ions of Ag or Cu, Au, Ni, Fe, Cr, Co, Mn in a ratio of 0.7% up to 4.5%, to which hardeners, catalysts, rheological and thixotropic agents are added, where the prepared resin may be as powder, liquid, enamel or gel coat and it is applied either directly on the surfaces to be protected or on wallpaper-type supports made of glass fiber, carbon fiber, cellulose or wood fiber or plastics of PVC or ABS type. The claimed photocatalytic method irradiates the photocatalytic polymer resin with waves having the length ranging between 450 nm and 500 nm and photocatalytically activates the semiconductor metallic oxide, to form the reactive oxygen singlet species ROS (of OΔor O1Σtype), with biocidal and disinfecting action, to result in a process of disinfection for interior surfaces, which may be controlled and adjusted by light intensity.
