The pre-treatment plant seed treatment utilizes a low temperature plasma in combination with a subsequent surface treatment of the seed using a mordant, wherein the low temperature plasma is generated at atmospheric pressure in air or other conventional working gas. The mordant can be applied at a lower dose after plasma treatment of the seeds. Further described is an apparatus enabling the method to be carried out, comprising a block for the surface treatment of seeds by plasma and a block for the subsequent treatment of seeds with seed dressing.
