A method of identifying a biometric record of an individual in a database (108), the database comprising at least a first and second record sets, each set comprising at least one record, at least each record comprising a plurality of biometric samples, wherein the plurality of biometric samples comprises a biometric sample of a first type and a biometric sample of a second type different from that of the first type, and wherein the method comprises: receiving by a device (102) processing at least a first and a second input biometric samples from said individual, wherein said first input biometric sample is of the first type and wherein said second input biometric sample is of the second type; dividing said database into a first partition comprising said first set of records and a second partition comprising said second set of records based on a combination, for each record in said database, of a quality measurement in relation to the first input biometric sample of the first type and a quality measurement of the biometric sample of said first type from each respective record; performing in the records of said first set a first correspondence process that comprises performing a first filtering operation on the records of said first set followed by a second filtering operation on the remaining records of said first set, and performing on the records of said second set a second matching process comprising performing said second filtering operation on the registers of said second set, followed by said first filtering operation on the remaining registers of said second set, wherein said first filtering operation comprises comparing said first input biometric sample with a first reference biometric sample from each record, wherein said first reference biometric sample is of the first type and said second filtering operation comprises comparing said second input biometric sample with a second reference biometric sample every register, wherein said second reference biometric sample is of the second type, and wherein said first filtering operation comprises at least one filtering threshold and said second filtering operation comprises at least one filtering threshold, wherein the filtering threshold The first filtering operation is determined based on the combination, for each record in said database, of the quality measurement of the first input biometric sample of the first type and the quality measurement of the biometric sample of said first type. of each respective record; and identify a biometric record of said individual based on the results of the first and second matching process.
