The present invention relates to an alkyd resin as well as the process for preparing such a resin. Said resin can be used in paint formulations. Said alkyd resin and its preparation process make it possible to reduce compounds harmful to humans and / or the environment by using certain biobased components. Said alkyd resin comprises: - a polyacid component or its acid anhydride; - a first polyol component having at least two hydroxyl groups; - a second bio-based polyol component having at least one unit of 1,4: 3,6-dianhydrohexitol; and - a component based on bio-based oil or its corresponding bio-based fatty acid, said alkyd resin comprising less than 10% by moles, relative to the total number of moles of the different components, of aromatic polyacid (s), of polyacid (s) cycloalkyl (s) or anhydride (s) acid (s) of said polyacids.
