The present application relates to the technical field of wireless body area networks, and provided thereby are a method and apparatus for switching the communication mode of a wireless body area network, the method comprising: acquiring service characteristics of current WBANs, the service characteristics comprising service parameter information and communication requirement information; inputting the service characteristics to a pre-trained service classification model to obtain the service type of the current WBANs; according to the service type as well as a pre-established correspondence relationship between service type and optimal communication mode, determining the optimal communication mode corresponding to the service type; switching the communication mode of the current WBANs to the optimal communication mode. By means of the method and apparatus for switching the communication mode of a wireless body area network as provided by the embodiments of the present application, the optimal communication mode may be adaptively selected according to communication requirements, thereby achieving the double assurance of energy consumption being low and the quality of transmission being high.
