A system (20) and method for aerodynamic torsion damping of a wind turbine rotor blade (1) having a wind turbine rotor blade aerofoil with a leading edge (2) and a trailing edge (3). An additional aerofoil (6; 6') is coupled to the wind turbine rotor blade (1), and has a leading edge (7; 7') and a trailing edge (8; 8'). The leading edge (7; 7') of the additional aerofoil (6; 6') is positioned rearward of an elastic axis (E) of the wind turbine rotor blade (1) and generates lift to counter torsional forces experienced by the wind turbine rotor blade (1) along its length.
