This accounting device (20) has: a card-related-information acquisition unit (21) that acquires card-related information that includes the credit limit of a credit card either by reading a code that indicates the card-related information or by short-range wireless communication with a portable terminal that has stored the card-related information; a product-information acquisition unit (22) that acquires product identification information for one or more products for which payment is to be made; a determination unit (23) that, on the basis of the credit limit and of a payment amount calculated on the basis of the product identification information, determines whether settlement using the credit card is possible; an output unit (26) that outputs determination results from the determination unit (23); and an accounting unit (24) that performs payment processing on the basis of the determination results from the determination unit (23).
