Provided are an image acquisition device (200), a handheld gimbal (100), and a control method for the handheld gimbal (100). The handheld gimbal (100) comprises a handle (10) and a stabilizing assembly (20) mounted on the handle (10), the stabilizing assembly (20) being used for carrying a load (30). The control method comprises: (01) determining a usage mode of a handheld gimbal (100); (02) acquiring an actual attitude of a load (30) and an actual attitude of a handle (10); and (03) controlling the rotation of a stabilizing assembly (20) based on the usage mode of the handheld gimbal (100), the actual attitude of the load (30) and the actual attitude of the handle (10), so that the load (30) is rotated to a desired attitude.
