Provided is a parallel wire device with which an object can be made to undergo translational movement and to rotate across a wide range of movement. The parallel wire device comprises: an operation unit; a rotational operation unit attached to the operation unit so as to be able to rotate around at least one axis; first parallel wires for translationally driving the operation unit; and second parallel wires for rotationally driving the rotational operation unit. The rotational operation unit includes parallel links, and the second parallel wires include parallel wires for respectively driving each of the links constituting the parallel links.
