The present invention provides a pyrromethene boron complex which is able to be used as a red light emitting material that has improved luminous efficiency and color purity. A pyrromethene boron complex which is represented by general formula (1), while satisfying at least one of requirements (A) and (B).In the formula, X and R¹-R⁹ are selected from among specific groups; and at least one pair among four pairs of R¹ and R², R² and R³, R⁴ and R⁵, and R⁵ and R⁶ is a ring structure represented by one of general formulae (2A)-(2D). In general formulae (2A)-(2D), R¹⁰¹, R¹⁰² and R²⁰¹-R²⁰⁴ are the same as R¹-R⁷ in general formula (1); Ar represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring, or a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic heterocyclic ring; R¹⁰¹ and R¹⁰² may form a ring; and * represents a linking part to be linked with a pyrromethene skeleton.
