Provided is a wire gripper (2) that can prevent damage to a covering member of an aluminum electric wire when an aluminum electric wire (W) is gripped and pulled to a cutting location (CT), and a live line sorting tool (1) that uses said wire gripper. The wire gripper comprises: a receiver (4) that has a fitting groove (4a) formed on the bottom surface; a cam member (5); a spacing adjustment unit (6) that adjusts the spacing between the cam member and the receiver; and a linking part (7) that can link the wire gripper to a pulling tool (3) so as to allow swinging in the vertical direction, the pulling tool (3) pulling in the direction of approaching the location where the aluminum electric wire is to be cut. The fitting groove (4a) of the receiver has a V-shaped cross section in a first end part (4a1) at the side near the cutting location, and has a semi-circular cross section in a second end part (4a2) at the side far from the cutting location. Furthermore, at least one part of the fitting groove that includes the second end part on the side far from the cutting location is provided with a cross section change part (4c) that gradually changes from the V-shaped cross section to the semi-circular cross section correspondingly with an increase in proximity to the second end part on the far side along the fitting groove.
