According to the present invention, every time one or more new tubers (16) formed in a underground part (10B) have grown to a size equal to or greater than a prescribed size that is set as a standard for comparison (S1), the following steps are performed: (S2) separating, from the underground part (10B), each of the one or more new tubers (16) grown to the prescribed size or larger; (S3) identifying the total weight of the one or more new tubers (16) separated from the underground part (10B); (S4) calculating the total weight per unit period of the one or more new tubers (16) having been separated from the underground part (10B); and (S5) determining whether said weight per unit period is greater or lower as compared with a predetermined desired value, or whether said weight is equal to the desired value.
