In a drum-type paper sheet accumulation device in which paper sheets are sequentially supplied to the peripheral surface of a payout drum, accumulated by being wrapped around the drum in a layered state, then collectively processed for return, provided is a feature that can keep paper currency aligned by maintaining a constant linear velocity for the outermost sheet on the payout drum without special speed control, despite the growing number of paper sheets accumulated on the periphery of the payout drum. A paper sheet accumulation drum 105 for layeringly accumulating, in the course of rotation thereof, paper sheets supplied singly onto the peripheral surface is characterized: by comprising a plurality of telescoping members 280 which are arranged at prescribed circumferential positions in a paper-sheet accumulation site on the peripheral surface and can telescope out and in between the most extended position that extends toward the outside diameter and a retracted position that is retracted inward of the most extended position, the telescoping members 280 being elastically biased towards the direction of extension and having the outer face thereof in contact with the paper sheet surface; and in that the paper sheets are accumulated spanning the intervals between the telescoping members 280.
