Provided are: a dental caries diagnostic instrument and a periodontal disease diagnostic instrument capable of quantitatively diagnosing the severity of dental caries and periodontal disease; and a diagnostic method therefor. Also provided is a diagnostic system comprising the diagnostic instruments. This optical dental caries diagnostic instrument 1 is provided with a light source 20, an indenter 30 which is contacted with a tooth, and a light receiving element 40. The indenter 30 is light transmissive and has a tapered shape. The light source 20 emits light to the indenter 30. The light receiving element 40 receives light from the tip of the indenter 30.
