The present invention relates to an optical detector for a high-voltage cable accessory. The present invention further relates to a monitoring system for detecting an electrical discharge in a high-voltage cable accessory and to a method of detecting and/or monitoring electrical discharges occurring within an insulating part of such a high-voltage cable accessory. According to the present invention, said optical detector detects a radiation generated by an electrical discharge of the high-voltage cable accessory at a wavelength of the radiation generated by the electrical discharge.
