Disclosed is a method for visually detecting a failure of a self-piercing riveting die in aluminum bodywork. The riveting die is an online die fixedly disposed at a lower end of a C-arm of a riveting gun. The optical axis of an image acquisition device and the central axis of a riveting rod of the riveting gun intersect to form an angle other than zero degrees, such that the image acquisition device gives way with respect to a C-chamber of the C-arm of the riveting gun during measurement. A corner prism is fixedly disposed at a front end of a lens of the image acquisition device. The lens of the image acquisition device obtains an image of the riveting die by means of the corner prism, thus achieving acquisition of an image of the riveting die. A prism is used in the present invention, such that the image acquisition device does not need to be placed between the riveting rod and the riveting die of the riveting gun; and accordingly, an industrial camera with higher pixels can be used together with the lens to capture subtle features on the surface of the riveting die, thereby ensuring the accuracy of detection results.
