A self-collimation system and method for a telescope, enabling the telescope to remain collimated in the event of distortions that might be suffered by its structure at any moment in time. The system comprises: a device for the alignment of the primary mirror (33) of the telescope, formed by two or more actuators; a motorised secondary mirror axis (7) that rotationally supports a secondary mirror (9) of the telescope; a collimation instrument (13) installed in at least one focal station of the telescope, where said collimation instrument comprises: a laser device (44) configured to emit a collimated beam toward a beam splitter (41); a screen (40) configured to receive a beam reflected from the primary and secondary mirrors of the telescope; a camera (42) facing said screen (40) and connected to an image acquisition computer; said image acquisition computer being connected to the alignment device of the primary mirror (33).
