A multi-purpose automatic patient transfer system for transferring a person (300) between a bed (100) and a mobile sitting device (200) is disclosed. The multi-purpose automatic patient transfer system includes the bed (100) and the mobile sitting device (200); the bed (100) includes: an interleaf structure of cushions (102) and padding (122a), the padding (122a) being raiseable, expandable, lowerable, or contractible, an extendible elongate supporting means (130) for supporting the padding (122a), supporting weight of a person (300) and transferring the person (300) sideways to the mobile sitting device (200); the mobile sitting device (200) includes alternating cushions (202) and at least one slot running across a width of its seat.
