An online monitoring system for cracks of a main shaft of a hoister, and a working method therefor. Said system is provided inside a drum, and comprises: a rope power part, a crack detection part, a wireless transmission part and a computer; the rope power part comprises two traction ropes (2, 13), two guide wheels (3, 12), two stepping motors (6, 11) and two stepping motor drivers; the crack detection part comprises a spiral pipe guide rail, a slider (7) and an ultrasonic generator; and the wireless transmission part comprises three zigbee wireless sensing modules. Said method comprises: the zigbee wireless sensing modules receiving an instruction sent by the computer and transmitting same to the stepping motor drivers to control the stepping motors (6, 11) to rotate, the stepping motors (6, 11) driving the guide wheels to rotate to realize winding of the traction ropes (2, 13), so as to pull the slider (7) to slide on the spiral pipe guide rail, the ultrasonic generator clamped on the slider (7) monitoring a rotating main shaft along the spiral pipe guide rail, and the zigbee wireless sensing modules transmitting detected data to the computer in real time.
