ANTAGONISTS OF MITOFUSION 1 AND BETA II PKC ASSOCIATION FOR TREATING HEART FAILURE

The present disclosure provides agents for inhibiting Mitofusin 1 (Mfn1) and beta-II protein kinase C (βIIPKC) association and methods of using the same. Also provided are methods of treating heart disease or improving survival from heart failure in a subject by inhibiting Mfn1 and βIIPKC association. Aspects of the methods include contacting a cell with an agent that inhibits Mfn1-βIIPKC association. Aspects of the methods further include contacting a cell with an agent that competes with βIIPKC for binding to Mfn1. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions that comprise an agent that modulates the interaction between Mfn1 and βIIPKC. Also provided are screening methods of identify candidate agents that modulate Mfn1-βIIPKC interactions.
