A catalyst is described comprising cobalt, molybdenum and a substrate that contains: 17.4-27.4 wt% [Co(H2O)2(C6H5O7)]2[Mo4O11(C6H5O7)2], with the remainder being the substrate; wherein the substrate contains 5.0-25.0 wt% aluminum borate Al3BO6 having the norbergite structure, no more than 0.03 wt% sodium; 30-50 wt% amorphous aluminosilicate, and the remainder being γ-Al2O3. The amorphous aluminosilicate included in the catalyst contains silicon and aluminum in a weight ratio of 0.2 to 0.3. The technical result is increased hydrodesulfurization activity of the catalyst in the hydrofining of gasolines from catalytic cracking, as well as increased selectivity of the catalyst expressed as a decrease in the degree of hydrogenation of olefinic hydrocarbons and a decrease in the drop in octane number of the gasoline from catalytic cracking when hydrofining is performed.
