The present invention relates to a method for preparing reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticles. The method comprises combustion of a source of carbon under high pressure in the presence of oxygen. The method disclosed in the present invention is a single-step cost effective method of preparation of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticles as compared to conventionally known processes.
