METHOD AND ASSEMBLY FOR MODERNIZING A RAIL VEHICLE

The invention relates to a method and an assembly for modernizing a rail vehicle, preferably a diesel locomotive. In the rail vehicle to be modernized, an enclosure of the engine room is removed in order to provide access to the engine room of the rail vehicle. Obsolete components of the engine room are removed from the rail vehicle using the access. New components, which are intended to replace the obsolete components as part of the modernization, are integrated in an engine room container, the engine room container being assembled as a separate unit outside the rail vehicle. The new components are tested for functionality in the engine room container. Using the access, the engine room container is inserted as a pretested unit into the rail vehicle to be modified, and is positioned and connected to the rail vehicle.
