A multispectral machine vision sensor system for controlling growing conditions, the system including: a thermal camera configured to collect thermal images; an optical camera configured to collect optical images; environmental sensors configured to collect environmental data; a processor configured to: receive the thermal images and optical images; mask the thermal images based upon the optical images; calculate the dew point (DP) and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) for each pixel of the masked thermal image; calculate average DP and VPD values for each grid area of the thermal images, wherein the thermal images are divided into a plurality of grid areas; determine if the average DP and average VPD values in each grid area are outside acceptable limits; and send an alert when either the average DP or average VPD are not acceptable.
