A human vision characteristic-based near-eye display method and a device. The method comprises: dividing a screen of a near-eye display into n display sub-regions (S100); acquiring critical spatial frequencies respectively corresponding to the n display sub-regions (S110); separately creating and rendering, according to the critical spatial frequencies respectively corresponding to the n display sub-regions, video image data of n image layers corresponding to the n display sub-regions from an input video image (S120); transmitting the video image data of the n image layers to the near-eye display (S130); and performing reconstruction and stitching on the video image data of the n image layers, generating an image adapted for human gaze-contingency, and displaying the image in the screen of the near-eye display (S140). The method controls a near-eye display in a way that greatly reduces the data volume transmitted from an image generation source to the near-eye display, thereby reducing a transmission bandwidth requirement, supporting a high display resolution and refresh rate, lowering power consumption, adapting to a spatial distribution characteristic of human vision, and alleviating dizziness.
