This production method for a denitrification agent/nitrification-promoting agent used as an organic carbon source in biological nitrification–denitrification treatment is characterized by production of a glycerol-containing solution through a first separation step for mixing a raw material containing glycerol and/or glycerol fatty acid esters and an inorganic acid and separating out a first oil and a first glycerol solution, a neutralization step for using an alkaline substance to neutralize the first glycerol solution, and a second separation step for separating out a second oil and a precipitated inorganic salt from the neutralized glycerol solution, the denitrification agent/nitrification-promoting agent being made to contain the resulting glycerol-containing solution as an organic carbon source for a biological nitrification–denitrification treatment. According to the present invention, provided are novel applications making it possible to make effective use of glycerol-containing waste and glycerol fatty acid ester-containing waste, and a method of treating glycerol-containing waste and glycerol fatty acid ester-containing waste that is suitable to use for such applications.
