Disclosed is a method for determining a fault section and fault time of a power distribution network, the method comprising: constructing a data set; calculating an evaluation index; setting a monitoring threshold value of the fluctuation of the evaluation index; determining a fault time and a fault area based on the calculated evaluation index; and determining a fault phase. Determination is carried out according to a ratio of the maximum singular values of the covariance matrices of a historical data set and an online data set; each measurement point of a whole network is detected in real time; after a fault time is determined, a variation degree of measurement point data is determined according to a determination result of each measurement point at the fault time; the fault area is determined according to the fault time and the variation degree ranking; the distance from a fault point to the measurement point is determined using the variation degree; and the fault phase is determined using data of any measurement point at a fault area end. The method is suitable for any load level, does not require the acquisition of the distribution law of a distributed power supply and load, requires few calculations, and can provide theoretical and technical guarantees for fault diagnosis of a power distribution system that the distributed power supply accesses or an existing power distribution system.
