To improve the tracking of the medical device (5), in particular the needle, it is envisaged that - a sensor unit (4) which is directly arranged at the probe housing (2), wherein the sensor unit (4) is configured to acquire position data concerning a position of the medical device (5), in particular the needle, by means of an acquisition principle, which is different from the ultrasound sensor (3).
