Provided is a method of measuring axial clearance in a double-row roller bearing that comprises a hub spindle (3), an inner race (5) fitted onto the outer periphery of one axial end of the hub spindle (3), an outer race (2), and rolling elements (4e, 4f) arranged in two rows. In a posture in which the axis of the hub spindle (3), onto which the outer race (2) has been installed with the rolling elements (4e, 4f) intervening, is oriented vertically, the inner race (5) is provisionally press-fitted onto the hub spindle (3). The outer race (2) is lifted upwards to bring the rolling elements (4f) on the inner-race (5) side into contact with raceway surfaces (2f, 5f). The distance (R1) between an axially directed end face (2b) of the outer race (5) and an axially directed end face (5a) of the inner race (5) is gauged. The outer race (2) is returned to its original position, and the inner race (5) is permanently fitted by being pressed onto the hub spindle (3) until the inner race (5) and the hub spindle (3) butt against each other. A distance (R2) between the end face (2b) of the outer race (2) and the end face (5a) of the inner race (5) is gauged. The axial clearance is found from the difference between the distance (R2) and the distance (R1).
