BLINK DETECTION SYSTEM FOR ELECTRONIC OPHTHALMIC LENS

Described herein are blink detection algorithms and associated circuits for ophthalmic lenses including electronic systems. A blink detection algorithm is implemented in a system controller that is part of an electronic system included in an ophthalmic lens. The electronic system includes one or more batteries or other power supplies, power management circuits, one or more sensors, clock generation circuits, control algorithms and circuits, and lens driver circuits. The blink detection algorithm, at a predetermined rate, samples the light incident on the human eye and at least temporarily stores the collected samples, opening the eyelids to predict the number, duration, and pulse width of blinks from the collected samples. Determining the number of blinks in a given period and duration of blinks, and determining the number of blinks, the duration of blinks in a given period, and the time between blinks in a given period. A step of determining a pattern of blinking is compared with the stored set of samples.
