A process for preparing an olefin polymer in the presence of hydrogen in a gas phase polymerization reactor comprising three or more polymerization zones, wherein at least two of the polymerization zones are sub-zones of the polymerization unit, wherein the growing polymer particles are downward in densified form. At least one polymerization zone is at least 1.5 times lower than the ratio of hydrogen to the sum of olefins in the polymerization zone with the highest ratio of hydrogen to the sum of the olefins, and also has the lowest ratio of hydrogen to the sum of olefins. A process for producing an olefin polymer having a ratio of hydrogen to the sum of the olefins, which is at least 1.5 times higher than the ratio of hydrogen to the sum of the olefins.
