A method, device and computer readable medium for uplink transmission opportunities in a high efficiency wireless local area network (HEW) are disclosed. The HEW station receives a trigger frame with a first duration from the HEW master station, determines a second duration based on the first duration, generates a packet with the second duration, and at an uplink transmission opportunity. And circuitry configured to transmit a packet having a second duration to a master station according to at least one of a group of orthogonal frequency division multiple access and multi-user multi-input multiple-output. The trigger frame includes a resource map, and the HEW station is configured to transmit a packet on a channel indicated in the resource map. The second duration may be indicated in the legacy portion of the packet. The second duration may extend to one short interframe space prior to acknowledgment of the packet.
