Vector Doppler Imaging (VDI) improves conventional Color Doppler Imaging (CDI) by giving the speed and direction of blood flow to each pixel of the display produced by the computing system. Multiple angles of plane wave transmissions (PWTs) via ultrasonic transducers easily provide Doppler measurements projected over a wide field of view, which provides instantaneous fluid dynamics. Provides angular diversity sufficient to identify velocity vectors in a short time window while capturing flow dynamics. A fast, aliasing-resistant velocity vector estimator for PWT is provided, and VDI imaging of the carotid artery with a 5 MHz linear array is shown using a novel synthetic particle flow visualization method.
