A control apparatus configured to control a power unit of a vehicle includes an electronic control device (1) which stores a set of measurement values of at least one physical parameter representing a plurality of different states of the power unit, calculates a first probability distribution representing the distribution of the measurement values in a first state and a second probability distribution representing the distribution of the measurement values in a second state by approximating the stored set of the measurement values by using a mixed probability distribution, sets a discrimination boundary of a value that becomes the first state and a value that becomes the second state between mean values of the first probability distribution and the second probability distribution, and controls the power unit according to a result of the comparison between the measurement value and the discrimination boundary.
