A thermal image acquired based on infrared rays has a lower resolution than that of a natural image acquired based on visible rays. To solve such a problem, the present invention provides a method for increasing the resolution of thermal imaging CCTV camera, which uses discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to a thermal image to increase the resolution thereof. According to the present invention, the method comprises the steps of: (a) inputting a thermal image; (b) searching for an outline of the inputted thermal image and correcting the searched outline to correct the thermal image; (c) applying one-level two-dimensional (2D) DWT to the inputted thermal image to acquire high frequency subbands; (d) combining the corrected thermal image with the high frequency subbands to perform inverse DWT; and (e) outputting an image acquired through reverse transform as an improved terminal image. Accordingly, the high frequency subband is acquired from the thermal image through DWT and is corrected through reverse DWT with a raw thermal image such that a lost high frequency component is effectively restored, thereby increasing the resolution of the image.
