According to the present invention, a method for operating a terminal device for studying Chinese characters using augmented reality (AR) comprises the following steps: recognizing an idiom originated in an ancient event Chinese character card by using an AR camera; connecting images corresponding to the recognized Chinese character card; recognizing a Chinese character picture through an optical character recognition module; and recognizing handwritten Chinese characters of a learner through the optical character recognition module.
